The Peak District National Park & Chesterfield
Chesterfield
C hesterfield Open Market
Chesterfield is renowned for its crooked spire and outdoor
marketplace. The market place has been in existence since the
12th century and today has over 200 Stalls
Chesterfield St Mary's Church
It is believed the crooked spire was built in the 14th Century
by in- experienced builders who used wood that had not been seasoned
correctly. Over the next few decades, as the wood dried out the
spire took on its now familiar shape.
Other legends state that the tower decided to take a better
look at a very beautiful young bride who had just been married
within the church.
The Peak District National Park
National wonders range from the heights of black rock and
tour to the depth of fantastic caverns such as Blue John and
trek Cliff, where the beautiful translucent mineral called Blue
John is found. Above ground, stately homes such as Hardwick Hall
and Chatworth maintain their own time less aristocratic atmosphere.
Walk The Beautiful Dales
The Peak district seems to be dominated by a rockey grandeur
but is softened by ravishing stretches of green such as Dove
Dale with it's sparkingling rivers and beautiful walks
Little has changed for hundreds of years with splendid views
and exhilarating walking. The Derbyshire dales are a joy for
casual or the experienced walker.
Visit Chatsworth House
Dating from 1687 Chatsworth is the work of three Dukes of
Devonshire. Whilst not the largest house in England it is certainly
one of the grandest.
After the wonders of the house there are still the 100 acres
of gardens to explore most of which are the work of Sir Joseph
Paxton architect of the Crystal Palace.
